Based on a prompt (The scene must include a blue coat, a rocking chair, knitting needles, and a parrot. No characters. No more than 500 words), I wrote this piece of flash fiction, and then made a couple of covers to match. Please enjoy!

Accidental Renaissance

It was a scene that should be displayed between Caravaggio and Vasari. A moment so frightening it was beautiful. A crowd had gathered and were frantic, shouting out for someone to call an ambulance. Her bag had opened the contents spilled out, rolling across the floor. Her knitting was tangled, caught within the pages of Flaubert’s Parrot, the paper back edition, its cover bent under itself as it tumbled to the ground, out of the woman’s hands as she fell. The sun cut through the storm cloud, creating a stream of light in the hallway and in a snapshot moment, for not more than a second, when the sunlight lit her in the dark gloom of the day, forcing the others into shadows, gold hair haloed against the blue backdrop of her raincoat –  she was heavenly.
